Social Emotional & Behavior

Children that have sensory integration and motor delays often experience frustration. These children often experience a “fight, flight, or freeze” response in relation to demands that are interpreted by the nervous system as “threatening”. They may display rigidity, have difficulty adapting to change in routine, may be emotionally labile, and have difficulty cooperating with others. At Butterfly Therapies, Inc., we use an integrated approach to behavior by providing sensory-based occupational therapy to calm the child and overcome delays, as well as teaching strategies for coping and engagement with others.

Modalities we use include, but are not limited to:

  • Astronaut Training by Vital Links

  • Therapeutic Listening by Vital Links

  • Use of proprioception activities to calm and organize

  • Yoga and meditation

  • Deep breathing techniques

  • Social Programs (Social Thinking, In the Zone)

  • Self-Regulation Programs (ALERT, Zones of Regulation)
